2008 Local Election Results

Although all of the voting is complete the election is not over. Amy Mallet has an 18 vote lead over John Curley for the office of Monmouth County Freeholder.  The county will start counting provisional ballots on Monday. If Amy’s lead holds, and we are confident that it will, Democrats will control the Board of Freeholders for the first time in over 20 years. We will keep you updated as news becomes available.

Matthew Cohen lost his hard run bid for Borough Council by 44 votes. We are proud of the race that he ran and thankful for the support of so many in the community including Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

Fair Haven saw unprecedented turnout on Tuesday with some interesting results. Barack Obama carried Fair Haven even though he last Monmouth County.

Pre-Election Day Meeting

Volunteers prepare Sunday before election day for the

Volunteers met in Fair Haven to plan the Election Day GOTV (Get Out the Vote) effort. Election law, provisional ballots and absentee ballots were covered during the meeting. The planning proved successful as we had volunteers at each of 6 voting districts for most of the day. Early evening a volunteer phone back called registered voters that had not yet cast their ballot and urged them to vote. Voter turnout in Fair Haven was very high over 70%. Voting went smoothly although some provisional ballots had to be cast and many voters where unsure of their voting district. The poll works did an amazing job working from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM with only a one hour break. At the end of the day Amy Mallet was ahead by 18 votes proving this effort and similar efforts all over the county do make the difference.

October 23rd Meeting

The Fair Haven Democratic Committee met for their monthly meeting on October 23,2008 at Kassie's Grill. Mayor Pat Menna of Red Bank was the guest speaker. He shared many ideas and suggestions for helping us become an effective alternative voice here in Fair Haven.  Amy Mallet and Glen Mason, who are both running for Freeholder, also attended and informed us of their activities during this challenging election season.  They have been participating in local debates in an effort to inform voters of their solutions for many of the issues that face our communities.  Matt Cohen, our Democratic Candidate for Council here in Fair Haven, presided over the meeting.  He has done a great job organizing a constituency of voters who are looking to bring balance, new perspective and vision to Fair Haven. This is the third meeting of the Fair Haven Democratic Committee which is open to any and all who would like to attend. Thank you to Kassie's for providing a welcoming and hospitable location for our meetings.
