Harold Baker

A few words from Council Candidate Harold:

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I am writing to introduce myself and announce my candidacy for Fair Haven Borough Council in this November’s election. My running mate Christina Malecki and I are excited to hear your voices and advocate for preserving Fair Haven’s traditions, protecting green spaces, and building a safer, more transparent future for our town.

A proud resident of Fair Haven since 2007, my roots are from Staten Island, NY, where my father was a Lieutenant in the New York City Fire Department and my mother tested phones at Bell Labs.

After graduating from Rutgers University in 1986, I started my career as both a Hess gas station manager and a restaurant chef. After a couple of years in the workforce, I applied for and was accepted to Brooklyn Law School. I earned my law degree and worked as an Assistant District Attorney for Kings County, NY. Later I opened my own practice: the Law Office of Harold Baker, Esq., focusing on criminal defense, civil rights, and personal injury litigation.

When my family moved to Fair Haven, we felt at home immediately with its small-town feel, its walkability, and its outstanding schools. We love participating in the town’s traditions, including the baseball parade, Fair Haven Day, crabbing off the dock, and the Fireman’s Fair. I enjoyed coaching multiple local youth sports teams for my three children and neighbors.

Now, I am running for council this November to give back to the town that has given so much to my family. I am committed to serving the people of this town and preserving the traditions that make this town special while working to improve services and programming for residents of all ages.

As an attorney, I have negotiated many settlements and plea bargains, earning a reputation for my even-handed approach and ability to build consensus, skills I will use when elected as Fair Haven Borough Councilman.

Several issues are central to my campaign, including town traffic safety, preserving the Fair Haven Natural Area, and providing more outlets for our youth. Some ideas to improve traffic safety include installing speed bumps and more electronic radar speeding warning devices throughout town to motivate drivers to slow down and ensure increased safety for pedestrians and bikers of all ages. To keep the Natural Area cleaner, garbage cans should be replaced and more residents should be encouraged to preserve our beautiful fields. Another priority is expanding adult-supervised activities at the newly reconstructed Youth Center.

Together, my running mate Christine Malecki and I have a shared passion for serving the community. As parents, professionals, and civic volunteers, we are eager to give back and help shape the future of the town we call home.

We look forward to talking with you about what you love about Fair Haven and what you feel needs improvement. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Harold Baker, Esq.
